Structural Rehabilitation & New Buildings Design

We provide a full range of structural engineering services in consulting to architects, building owner and public agencies on both rehabilitation projects and new buildings design projects.

A large share of our work has typically involved structural and seismic rehabilitations of both newer buildings and older historic buildings. We have developed procedures for detailed field investigations, testing and research to identify the key structural systems and details and to evaluate the existing capacities. We utilize the current and emerging existing building design standards particularly for seismic work with older buildings. Our rehabilitation projects include:

  • Major adaptive re-use projects
  • Major modifications and additions
  • Structural and seismic upgrades
  • Structural stabilization and preservation

We believe that economical structural rehabilitations afford a key opportunity to extend the useful lives of existing buildings and greatly reduce the environmental impacts of construction from a sustainable development viewpoint. We are working with the Applied Technology Council on the development of new tools for measuring the environmental benefits of earthquake resilient design.

We also have the opportunity to work with several outstanding architectural clients on design of new structures incorporating performance based seismic design and sustainable design principles. Recent projects have included the LEED Platinum San Elijo Nature Center, award winning waterfront commercial facilities, religious facilities and numerous educational facilities.
