Balboa Park Ornamentation:
San Diego Museum of Art, Museum of Man & California Tower, Casa del Prado

A B Court served as structural project manager and engineer for the evaluation, testing, seismic studies, and structural stabilizations of these three landmark historic structures in Balboa Park, including the Museum of Art, the Museum of Man & California Tower, and the Casa del Prado. We conducted detailed surface and subsurface field investigations of the ornamental cast-stone exteriors and structural supporting systems using crane access, drilling, coring, fibre-scoping and intrusive photography to document existing conditions. We collaborated with the design team to prepare stabilization drawings to anchor, brace, repair or replace the ornamentation and to seismically stabilize critical parts of the supporting structures for this historic rehabilitation project.
